Site Information
Welcome to Cascaro, population: 2,500. At one point it was a thriving city in northern New York; now it has gone to the dogs. Ailed with storms, tornadoes, and floods, most humans have abandoned the city in hopes of living a better life elsewhere. With the dwindling human population, strays sought refuge within the city’s limits. At first humans didn’t notice the increasing population of strays, dismissing the thought each time they passed one in an alleyway or nearly ran over one while pulling into their driveways. It wasn’t until canines outnumbered the humans that they realized something wasn’t quite right.
Despite their narrowing population, humans decided to take action against what they deemed as their new rival. They did not want to share their streets with stray dogs, in fear of the spread of infection the canines may carry. They tried whatever they could to tame the population – placing the dogs in the kennel, sterilizing them, putting them to sleep – but every tactic applied failed to have long term effects. Frustrated, humans grew desperate to exterminate the problem once and for all. Their anger intensified as they noticed the strays making their home in abandoned buildings and alleyways, slowly creeping in toward where the humans made their home.
With no where else to turn, Cascaro declared a state of emergency. Job opportunities in the kennel flourished, hiring new employees to catch and bring back as many dogs as possible, in hopes of preventing the species’ population from growing any further. Humans were permitted to do whatever they pleased with the strays they found, killing the most encouraged technique. Citizens were willing to do whatever it took to tame the population, in hopes of repairing Cascaro’s tarnished reputation. Their dream was to make their city the great capital it once was. The only question remaining is whether their efforts came too late.
